Question:
How do I link external URLs and course file in Canvas?
Answer:
Note: all course files should be added to the Weekly Readings and Resources pages within your course. Files should not be added as standalone pages within a module.
1. Navigate to the Readings page within your chosen module
2. From this page, press “edit” in the right-hand corner, and open the rich content editor.
3. Type your text in the box (the title of the URL / article / file you are linking to).
To link a URL:
- Option 1 - The file will be automatically inserted wherever your cursor is in the editor box. Press “command + K” to open the link options and add your link and title.
- Option 2 - highlight the text where you want to create a link. Press the link icon in the menu bar
and paste your link in the box.
To link a file or course page:
1. Highlight the title of the file in the rich text box.
2. On the right-hand side of the screen, you will see a menu with three tabs - Links, Files, Images. Click the Links tab to insert links to other course pages. Open the course content menu you want to access. By default the sidebar expands the Pages content, but you can also expand content areas for Assignments, Quizzes, Announcements, Discussions, and Modules. Click the title of the course content you want to link. Your text will now appear linked in the rich content box.
3. To link to a File, click the Files tab and select the file you want to link to.
4. Click the Save button below the rich text editor.
